Chip Shop Gravy Beef or Not

Chipped Beef Gravy

by Laura

This is a quick and simple recipe that I got from Meal Planning Mommies. It's also inexpensive. Sarah Anne is the the one who posted this Chipped Beef Gravy recipe and she put the cost as $2.

When I was younger, my mom would purchase chipped beef in a boil a bag meal. I loved it then and when I saw this I had to make it for nostalgic reasons. Don't let this gravy sit for too long after it's done or it will thicken even more, but if this happens just add some more milk to thin it out. I need to give this a try on biscuits next time.

Here is what you need to make the

Chipped Beef Gravy

  • BUDDING BEEF
  • MILK
  • BUTTERMILK BISCUITS OR TOAST
  • BUTTER
  • FLOUR
  • PEPPER
  • NUTMEG
  • CAYENNE

Chipped Beef Gravy

  • Author: Laura
  • 2 pkgs of Budding Beef
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cans buttermilk biscuits or toast!(I did toast, 1 1/2 slices per person)
  • 4 Tbsp butter
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg (I didn't add this)
  • dash of cayenne

Instructions

  1. Melt 4 Tbsp butter over medium heat in a large skillet. Preheat your oven if you are making biscuits. Tear the beef into pieces (I cut mine up) and cook in the butter until the edges curl up.
  2. Once your meat is done, add 1/4 cup flour, 1/4 t. pepper, 1/4 t. nutmeg and a dash of cayenne pepper. Stir and cook until bubbly. While this is heating, either put your biscuits in to bake or make toast to serve the gravy on.
  3. Add 2 cups milk, stir constantly until boiling. Cook 1 min. or until to your desired thickness. Serve over biscuits or toast. Serves 4-5.

Thank you! My mom used to make this all the time and it was one of the things I never had a chance to watch her make before she passed away. I have been wanting to make it forever.

One of my favorites growing up and still to this day. Love it over toast, biscuits, and even mashed potatoes. My only problem is making enough.

My mom use to make this all the time when I was young. I made it once for my family and they couldn't understand why I loved it. I still make it once in awhile for myself – they don't know what they are missing!

Thanks for the stroll down memory lane.
